Ferries

You can get 4 free ferry vouchers each year if you:

  • live in the Western Isles, Orkney or Shetland
  • have a National Entitlement Card (NEC) – you may know this as your free bus pass

The vouchers will give you 2 free return trips to the mainland as a foot passenger.

You do not need to apply for the ferry vouchers separately. If you qualify, you'll automatically get them with your NEC.

Find out more about ferry vouchers on the Transport Scotland website.

Accessibility on ferries

Most ferry companies in Scotland use ships which are accessible to people with all disabilities, including those who use wheelchairs.

If you need extra help when you travel, let the ferry company know as soon as you can. This will let them make the necessary arrangements.

Find out how to contact ferry operators on the Traveline Scotland website.
