Search for Coats of Arms in Scotland

A Coat of Arms is a design which identifies a specific person, family or organisation. In Scotland, a Coat of Arms can only belong to one person at a time.

To use a Coat of Arms in Scotland lawfully, the Arms must be recorded in the Public Register of All Arms and Bearings in Scotland. The person using the Coat of Arms must be legally entitled to use them.

If you want to search the Public Register for a certain Coat of Arms, it's open to personal inspection in the Court of the Lord Lyon in Edinburgh. You can also search the Public Register online on the Scotland’s People website

Visit the Court of the Lord Lyon website for information on searching the Public Register, including fees and opening times.
