If you're in private foster care

You are in private foster care if your parents have decided it's best for you to live with someone else who is not a close relative. It might be someone you do not know well yet.

The private foster carer may look after you day-to-day, but your parents will still be legally responsible for you.

Where to get more help

Your rights

You have rights like every other child and adult. These are in place by law and cannot be taken away.

Find out more about the law and your rights at Clan Childlaw.

Speak to your parents first if you have any problems, questions or concerns while you're in private foster care.

Contact the Scottish Child Law Centre if you need to speak to someone about your legal rights. They can give you free advice. They can also speak to your parents and private foster carer if that helps you.
