Support at school

You can choose to share your Young Carer Statement with your school, so they understand your caring responsibilities.

Once they know about your caring responsibilities, your school must support you to stay in school and reach your goals.

Speak to your school's nurse or counsellor for support with your health and wellbeing.

Leaving school

You can leave school at 16 in Scotland.

If you want to go to university, you can get advice about personal statements from UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service)

Ask for an updated Young Carer Statement or Adult Carer Support Plan if you’re leaving school and think your caring role will change.

You may also be eligible for financial support at college or university.
