Overview
Clients who receive Disability Living Allowance for children will have their benefit replaced by Child Disability Payment. The transfer process begins in Autumn 2021.
Child Disability Payment is run by Social Security Scotland. This means your benefit is moving from the Department for Work and Pensions. It will now be paid to you by Social Security Scotland.
This change affects children and young people in Scotland only.
Why this change is happening
Social Security Scotland is taking control of some benefits that used to be handled by the Department for Work and Pensions.
Why your child's benefit is transferring
Your child's benefit is transferring to Social Security Scotland because they:
- currently receive Disability Living Allowance for children
- live in Scotland
During the transfer process you do not have to reapply or be reassessed.
Social Security Scotland will use information from your Disability Living Allowance for children award to pay you the same Child Disability Payment rate.
You do not need to do anything unless your circumstances change.
Withholding new information which may affect your award may be an offence.
If you have more than one child receiving assistance
If you have more than one child receiving assistance, it is unlikely that their benefits will transfer at the same time.
Clients’ benefits will transfer from the Department for Work and Pensions in age order starting with the oldest.
The order for remaining clients will be available closer to the time.
Eligible children and young people in Scotland can continue to receive Child Disability Payment until they're 18.
