Apply for a basic disclosure

Warning

If you need a basic disclosure for a role in Scotland, use this service, provided by Disclosure Scotland. For a role in England or Wales, apply to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

How to apply

1. Sign in or create an account

Before you apply you'll be asked to sign in using ScotAccount. This allows you to access Disclosure Scotland services. If you do not have a ScotAccount you can create one as part of your application.

ScotAccount is a secure way to access public services online. It makes accessing services easier because you can use one account to sign in to different services and verify your personal information.

2. Complete your application

Once you access Disclosure Scotland services you can start an application. It costs £25 for a basic disclosure. You can pay by credit or debit card. Applications are usually processed with 14 days, unless Disclosure Scotland needs more information.

3. Share your disclosure

Once you're application is processed Disclosure Scotland will send you an email. This will have a secure link to sign in and view your disclosure.

When you view your disclosure you'll have the option of sharing it. If an organisation asked you to apply, you can share it with them to continue the recruitment process.
