Volunteer to be a custody visitor

A custody visitor is a volunteer who checks on the care and welfare of people held in police custody.

Independent Custody Visiting Scotland (ICVS) recruits volunteers and provides full training and support throughout your time as a custody volunteer.

Custody visitors go to police stations to talk to people held in custody. They provide an independent check on how the police treat people. They check if people in custody:

  • are looked after properly
  • being held in clean and safe conditions
  • have their rights protected
  • have their dignity protected

Find more information on custody visiting and apply on the Scottish Police Authority website.
