How to apply for Short-term Assistance
You should apply for Short-term Assistance when you ask for a re-determination or an appeal. You’ll need to tell us if you want to apply for Short-term Assistance when you ask for the re-determination or appeal.
Apply by sending a paper form
You can ask for a re-determination or appeal and apply for Short-term Assistance by completing one of the paper forms below and sending it to:

You can also apply by calling Social Security Scotland free on 0800 182 2222 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
If you're a British Sign Language user, you can use the Contact Scotland service to contact Social Security Scotland by video relay.
If you’re hard of hearing, you can use the Text Relay Service: 18001 +0300 244 4000.
You should apply for Short-term Assistance when you ask for a re-determination or appeal.
If you asked to challenge a decision to reduce or stop your disability payment but did not apply for Short-term Assistance, you may still be able to apply. You can only get Short-term Assistance if the re-determination or appeal decision has not been made. To apply, call Social Security Scotland free on 0800 182 2222.
