Bank holidays
Bank holidays are the same across Scotland.
If a holiday is over the weekend, a weekday becomes the bank holiday instead (a substitute day). This is usually the Monday after the original date.
| Date | Day of the week | Bank holiday |
|---|---|---|
| 1 January | Thursday | New Year's Day |
| 2 January | Friday | 2 January |
| 3 April | Friday | Good Friday |
| 4 May | Monday | Early May bank holiday |
| 25 May | Monday | Spring bank holiday |
| 15 June | Monday | World Cup |
| 3 August | Monday | Summer bank holiday |
| 30 November | Monday | St Andrew's Day |
| 25 December | Friday | Christmas Day |
| 28 December | Monday | Boxing Day (substitute day) |
Previous years
Bank holidays for previous years can be found on gov.scot.
Rest of the UK
Bank holidays for the rest of the UK can be found on GOV.UK.
Time off work
Bank or public holidays do not have to be given as paid leave.
An employer can choose to include bank holidays as part of a worker’s statutory annual leave.
