How much you might be paid
If you’re eligible, you’ll get a letter in November or December that tells you how much you’ll be paid.
If you do not get a letter and think you’re eligible, check if you need to claim from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).
You’ll get £200 or £300 if you’re eligible
To be eligible for the payment, you must get at least one other, specific benefit on at least one day of the qualifying week.
The qualifying week for winter 2024 was Monday 16 September to Sunday 22 September 2024.
The amount you’ll be paid depends on:
- your age during the qualifying week
- the age of anyone you jointly claim your qualifying benefit with
To find out how much you could get, read the scenarios below.
You do not jointly claim your qualifying benefit
You’re aged 66 to 79 in the qualifying week
This means you were born between 23 September 1944 and 22 September 1958.
You’ll get £200.
You’re aged 80 or over in the qualifying week
This means you were born before 23 September 1944.
You’ll get £300.
You jointly claim your qualifying benefit
If you live with someone and jointly claim certain benefits with them, one of you will get a single payment. It’ll be paid into the bank account where your benefits are normally paid.
The benefits are:
- Pension Credit
- Universal Credit
- income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
- Income Support
You might also be eligible if you got Child Tax Credit or Working Tax Credit. This only applies if you got at least £26 from those benefits in the 2024 to 2025 tax year.
You and your partner are both aged 66 to 79 in the qualifying week
This means you were both born between 23 September 1944 and 22 September 1958.
You’ll get a single shared payment of £200.
One of you is aged 66 to 79 in the qualifying week but the other is under 66
This means only one of you was born between 23 September 1944 and 22 September 1958. The other was born on 23 September 1958 or later.
You’ll get a single payment of £200.
Either you or your partner are aged 80 or over in the qualifying week
This means either one of you was born before 23 September 1944.
You’ll get a single shared payment of £300.
