South of Scotland Enterprise
Why the Agency was established
In May 2016, the Enterprise & Skills Review recommended a new approach to supporting inclusive growth in the South of Scotland. To realise this the South of Scotland Enterprise (SOSE), a new economic development agency, was set up.
Opening on 1 April 2020, SOSE drives inclusive growth, increased competitiveness and the tackling of inequality within the region and to Scotland as a whole.
The South of Scotland has many natural advantages that make it attractive for residents, businesses and visitors. It also recognises it has challenges as well, being a predominantly rural area with issues impacting its economy.
SOSE’s vision, mission and values will help support and develop inclusive growth in the region and encourage new thinking around ways of tackling any challenges.
Vision
The vision of SoSE is to be able to drive inclusive growth, increase competitiveness and tackle inequality within the South of Scotland. SOSE also want to establish the South of Scotland as a centre of opportunity, innovation and growth.
Mission
To work with people and businesses in communities right across the South of Scotland to grow its economy by providing investment, expertise and mentoring. SOSE will inspire the region to think bigger and unlock significant opportunities for all.
Values
The four core values which SOSE strives to follow are to be:
- inclusive, supporting diverse thinking from diverse communities and businesses
- responsible, to do what’s right for communities and the planet, to champion the South of Scotland and all those who live there
- bold, open minded and ambitious
- striving, challenging ourselves to always be better
