Home Energy Scotland grant and loan
You can apply for the Home Energy Scotland grant and loan if you're a homeowner.
You could get up to £15,000 as a grant. You could get:
- up to £7,500 for energy efficiency improvements – for example, insulation
- up to £7,500 for clean heating systems – for example, heat pumps
The amount you can get depends on what improvements you want to make.
For some improvements the maximum grant is less.
You do not have to pay it back.
You could also get an interest-free loan to cover some of your costs.

Rural households
If you live in a rural area, you can apply for extra grant funding. You could get:
- up to £1,500 extra for energy efficiency improvements
- up to £1,500 extra for clean heating systems
If you're unsure, Home Energy Scotland can tell you if you’re a rural household.
What you can get funding for
You can get a grant or loan for improvements that are recommended in either your home’s:
- Energy Performance Certificate (EPC)
- Home Energy Improvement Report
- Home Renewable Selector Report
Check if your home has an Energy Performance Certificate on the Scottish EPC register website.
Home Energy Scotland can help you get these if you do not have one.
Who can apply
You need to be a homeowner.
Who cannot apply
You cannot apply if you’re a:
- private landlord – you could apply for the Private Rented Sector Landlord Loan
- business - you could apply to the SME Loan Scheme
- property developer
How to apply
You apply by contacting Home Energy Scotland.
You can either:
- phone: 0808 808 2282 – Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm and Saturday 9am to 5pm
- complete a contact form – an adviser from Home Energy Scotland will then get in touch with you
The adviser will:
- ask questions about you and your home
- check what support you're eligible for
The adviser will then send you a link to a personalised application form for you to fill in.
