Complain about a public service

If you want to complain about a public service, you should follow their complaints procedure first.

Public services include:

  • the NHS
  • housing
  • councils
  • colleges and universities
  • prisons
  • water suppliers
  • commissioner or inspector agencies
  • the government

If you’re unhappy with their response, you can contact the Scottish Public Services Ombudsman (SPSO) and ask them to investigate.

Find out more about complaining about a public service on the SPSO website.
