Having a review if you earn money

To get Carer Support Payment your ‘take home pay’ cannot be more than £151 a week. This is the same as Carer’s Allowance.

Your take home pay is what's left after you've paid tax, National Insurance and expenses such as childcare costs while you work.

It’s okay if your take home pay is sometimes more than £151 a week. Social Security Scotland will work out how much your average take home pay is.

If you’re self-employed

Social Security Scotland will review your earnings at agreed intervals. This is to check you’re entitled to Carer Support Payment.

When your review will happen

Social Security Scotland will review your Carer Support Payment around the same time as the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) would have reviewed your Carer’s Allowance.

If DWP were due to review your Carer’s Allowance around the time of the move, Social Security Scotland will contact you to say:

  • when your review will happen
  • what you’ll need to prepare for the review

If you’re employed

You will not need to send Social Security Scotland information about your earnings from employment. They’ll get this information from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

If your earnings or employment change

Tell DWP if your circumstances change before the move, or during the move.

After the move, tell Social Security Scotland.

Find out how to report a change.
