Moving to England, Wales or Northern Ireland

If you move to England, Wales or Northern Ireland you'll no longer be able to get Social Security Scotland assistance.

You need to tell Social Security Scotland when you move.

You will continue to receive your payment for up to 13 weeks after you move if it’s one of the following:

  • Adult Disability Payment
  • Child Disability Payment
  • Pension Age Disability Payment
  • Carer Support Payment

If you do not tell Social Security Scotland about your move within 13 weeks, you could be overpaid. If a disability benefit stops this could affect anyone receiving Carer’s Allowance or Carer Support Payment. It could also affect your eligibility for other benefits or assistance.

Find out how to let Social Security Scotland know that you’ve moved.

Other help you might get

If you move permanently to England, Wales or Northern Ireland and you’re currently receiving assistance from Social Security Scotland, you might be eligible for other help.

It’s important to apply as soon as you have moved or you could miss out on help you might be entitled to.
