Apply for a public appointment

You can apply to become a board member or a board chair of a public body through a public appointment.

Some examples of public bodies are:

  • NHS health boards
  • Scottish Water
  • Accounts Commission for Scotland
  • Community Justice Scotland

As a board member or chair, you get to:

  • offer opinions and guidance
  • learn how the organisation works

You will not be involved in the day-to-day running of the public body.

You'll usually need to commit to a couple of days per month. Not all public appointments are paid.

Search for current vacancies and find out how to apply on gov.scot.
