Switching from pre-settled to settled status

If you’re an EU citizen living in the UK, you will either have pre-settled or settled status. You must apply to be granted either.

Pre-settled status is given to European nationals who have been living in the UK for less than 5 years.

Settled status will only be given if you’ve been living in the UK continuously for 5 years or more.

Applying to switch your status

If you have pre-settled status, you may be eligible to apply for settled status.

You must apply for settled status before your pre-settled status expires.
